Vaccine for mosquito disease will not be available for next 10 years

Deputy director of Ministry of Health Malaysia said vaccine for mosquito disease still not be available for the next 5 to 10 years. Public needs to be more alert to cut down of mosquito breeding. Singapore and Vietnam now is working hard to develop vaccine to cure mosquito disease.

He mentioned, if we manage to develop vaccine, we need to do more testing on effectiveness and safeness before release officially so in short period of time, vaccine is impossible to be developed.

He also mentioned, in our country, Malaysia, has now reported 26446 cases of Dengue Fever this year and causing 64 people died, among of them, 64% of reported Dengue Fever and 74% of high risk mosquito breeding area is in Klang river.

With the effort of Ministry of Health, Dengue Fever has been successfully been cut down for the past 3 weeks and we have set a 7 strategies to cut down Dengue Fever start from now to the year of 2013.

He finally mentioned, Dengue Fever is affecting 25 billion people worldwide especially in Africa, South of America, Middle East, South East Asia and Asia Pacific country.

50 more dengue fever cases recorded today

Fifty more dengue fever cases were recorded in Malaysia from Nov 16-22 bringing the total to 1,121.

No death was recorded, Health Ministry disease control director Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said in a statement today.More cases were recorded in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Terengganu and Sarawak.Dr Hasan said the rise in dengue cases was due to lack of efforts to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.Inspections by local authorities found that 79 per cent of the premises breeding mosquitoes were houses or shophouses.

Some 1,766 compound fines amounted RM61,300 and 447 clean-up notices were issued last week.There were 1,071 dengue fever cases recorded the previous week including two deaths.

Chikungunya attacks family in Muar, Johor

Family of five infected with Chikungunya due to drainage problem outside their house in Muar, Johor. Owner of the house said that, Muar Municipal Council has not been cleaning the drain around her house for long time and now causing breeding of mosquitoes. She said her husband, herself and her 3 children gets Chikungunya infection due to this problem. After Ministry of Health aware of this issue, they have arranged 'gotong royong' and 'mosquito fogging' in that area to control the Chikungunya disease. Mr Lee from complaint department of Muar Municipal Council has also arrange cleaning company to clean all the drains to prevent mosquitoes breeding and he also said everyone has responsibility to play a part to do cleaning at their area to prevent mosquitoes breeding.
